The Truth About McDonald's
by Christian
Reasons to boycott McDonalds HUNGER. While millions of people die of starvation, in the “third world” a lot of surface is used for the cattle and cultivation of the food destined to the cattle of the rich countries.145 million tons of grain(per year) are used for the alimentation of the cattle, gives a result of only 21 million tons of meat beef. ENVIORMENT. Great parts of the tropical forests are destroyed by multinationals. McDonalds had confirmed that great part of their beef used in their products come from places that were tropical forests. This multinationals obligate local ranchers to expand their ranches and destroy more forests. Millions of trees are cut down to use that space to sow food for the cattle, the trees are cut, the place is burned, they clean it and they sow the place, what happens is that this land can be used for almost 5 years even though those lands are not for that kind of cultivation and the more the cultivate there all the minerals are sterilized. McDonalds is the biggest consumer of beef in the world. Every years McDonalds (like many others) use tons of package material that are unnecessary That means a lot of trash. HEALTH. we all know this food is bad for your health, even though McDonalds tries to prove the contrary. In 1991 was responsible for hundred of intoxications in England. ANIMALS. McDonalds needs a lot of beef, for that reasons they brood animals in extreme conditions. The animals don’t have space to move, they keep them awake the 24 hours of the day, and they feed them with hormones. This makes them get fat faster than the usual and lets not talk about how they kill them. EMPLOYMENT. Consider that they are in fact a net destroyer of jobs by using low wages and the huge size of their business to undercut local food outlets and thereby force them out of business. Is McDonald's a great job opportunity or are they taking advantage of high unemployment to exploit the most vulnerable people in society, working them very hard for very little money? Complaints from employees range from discrimination and lack of rights, to understaffing, few breaks and illegal hours, to poor safety conditions and kitchens flooded with sewage, and the sale of food that has been dropped on the floor. This type of low-paid work has even been termed 'McJobs'. If any of their employees is involved in a syndicate they fire him with no reasons. Trade Unionists don't like McDonald's either. The company is notorious for the vehemence with which they try to crush any unionization attempt. They argue that all their workers are happy and that any problems can be worked out directly without the need for interference from a third party, but are they in fact just desperate to prevent any efforts by the workers to improve wages and conditions? As you can see we have many reasons to boycott McDonalds and other fast food multinationals that do the same ARE YOU HELPING THEM TO DESTROY THE WORLD? |
